Director of the GACCCP Tamer Abdel-Moneim and Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Davide Scalmani
The protocol focuses on the cinematic level and comes within the framework of the cultural cooperation between Italy and Egypt.
The cooperation protocol was signed under the auspices of Culture Minister Ines Abdel-Dayem, Director of the General Administration of Cinematic Culture and Cinema Palace (GACCCP) Tamer Abdel-Moneim and Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo Davide.
It includes holding a monthly Italian cinema club at the Cinema Palace and a monthly Egyptian cinema club at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute of Cairo, located in Zamalek.
It also includes hosting Italian filmmakers to give specialised lectures at the Cinema Palace for cultural exchange and widening horizons for cinema lovers in Egypt.
Furthermore, the two parties agreed to publish Italian cinematic studies in a white and black magazine issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and translated into Arabic.
Scalmani stated that it was also decided that “Cinema Al Shaab” (the people's cinema) project would show in some venues, modern Italian films in parallel with their screenings in Italy and the United States.
On the other hand, Abdel-Moneim expressed that the Italian and Egyptian cinemas are of the most important and oldest cinemas in the world, and the exchange between the two will be very welcomed by Egyptian and Italian audiences.
He also pointed out that screening modern Italian films in Egypt at the people’s cinema project is an important step, adding that a committee will watch the movies and show them to the Censorship on Artistic Works for approval.
Abdel-Moneim explained that Italian films may be screened in the mornings alongside the Egyptian films, and throughout the day at “Cinema Al Shaab” in Sharm El-Sheikh and Alexandria.
He also stated that "The protocol may include screening films of the famous Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini all over Egypt after El Gouna Film Festival in October," said Abdel-Moneim.
