The event featured speeches by the Indian Ambassador to Egypt Ajit Gupte, as well as the main guest to the celebration Major-General Mohamed Sultan, chairman of the board of directors of the Specialized Gardens Sector in Cairo.

Afterward, participants practiced the common yoga protocol.

During his speech, Gupte expressed his happiness to see the huge number of yoga lovers, adding that yoga is a valuable gift of the ancient Indian civilization to the world.

“Yoga addresses the spiritual, mental and physical aspects, and so it helps people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which enhances harmony between mind, soul and body. Yoga is not only for health and well-being but also promotes peace and harmony as well as progress and brotherhood,” he said.

He also explained the history behind International Yoga Day, pointing out that it was adopted at the UN in 2014 after a resolution was co-sponsored by 177 nations, including Egypt.

The resolution is a recognition of the valuable benefits of yoga in promoting a healthy and peaceful lifestyle, Gupte added.
