India’s Ministry of External Affairs celebrates the occasion each year, with an overall aim of promoting Hindi on a worldwide scale.

Hindi, the world’s third most spoken language, is the mother tongue of around 340 million people.

Hindi is the official language of India and is also spoken in over 20 countries worldwide.

The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) and the Embassy of India in Cairo will host a host of competitions from 21 to 25 January to mark the occasion.

The competitions will entail various categories, including Hindi Hand Writing (senior and junior levels), Hindi Extempore Speaking (senior and junior levels), Hindi Picture Writing (senior and junior levels), Hindi Group Quiz (senior and junior levels), and Hindi Essay writing competition.

The winners will be awarded prizes and certificates during a celebration that will take place at Al-Gomhouriya Theatre in Cairo on Wednesday, 31 January 2024.

The World Hindi Day commemorates the historic moment when Hindi was first spoken in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1949.

The occasion witnesses the holding of various events and activities to promote Hindi and celebrate its rich cultural heritage.
