The exhibition presents a wonderful collection of caricatures that bring together two of the world’s great Nobel laureates in literature -- Egyptian novelist and writer Naguib Mahfouz and Indian poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore.
The Indian Ambassador in Cairo, Ajit Gupte, opened the museum, accompanied by Camellia Sobhi, a Senate member and university professor, and the exhibition's curator, Fawzi Morsi. Furthermore, the exhibition was attended by cartoonists, visual artists, and several media personalities, and the audience.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in India and passed away on 7 August 1941 in Calcutta. Tagore was a Bengali polymath who was active as a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter during the age of the Bengal Renaissance. He reshaped Bengali literature and music and strongly influenced Indian art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with his Contextual Modernism.
Morsi, an artist and curator of the exhibition, said the exhibition includes more than 50 caricature panels drawn by 50 artists from 21 countries worldwide, including Egyptians and Indians.

"The celebration included the announcement of winning Egyptian artists who participated in the “Tagore-Mahfouz Caricature” competition in February. A jury selected the first three winners who received three financial prizes from the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture," explained Morsi. He added that the participants in the competition had submitted joint caricatures of Rabindranath Tagore and Naguib Mahfouz.
The exhibition, which ends on 15 May, is organized by the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, the Caricature Museum in Fayoum, the Egypt Cartoon platform, and a group of prominent artists from Egypt and the world. The Egyptian artists who participated include Ahmed Alawi, Hosni Abbass, Adham Lotfy, Farouk Moussa, Khaled El-Marsafi, Noura Makram, Ghada Mustafa, Hadeer Yehia, Hany Abdel-Gawad, Marwa Ibrahim, Omar Seddiq, and Yasmine Gamal.
Another exhibition is scheduled to be organized on 11 December, the birth anniversary of Naguib Mahfouz.
