Indian embassy in Cairo celebrates 76th Republic Day of India

On the occasion of India's 76th Republic Day, Charge d’ Affairs Mrs. C. Sushma highlighted the immense potential for stronger ties between India and Egypt across various pillars of engagement.

The Indian embassy in Cairo celebrated the 76th Republic Day of India on 26 January, marking the adoption of the constitution in 1950.

The day holds its importance in establishing democratic values and freedom from British-made laws.

Celebrations started in the morning with great zeal and patriotic fervour, with Mrs. Sushma unfurling the Tiranga national flag at the India House in Zamalek.

Members of the Indian community and friends of India in Egypt were present.

Sushma shared excerpts from the Indian president's address on the eve of the Republic Day, highlighting India’s remarkable progress, resilience, and steadfast commitment to the values enshrined in the Indian constitution.

She also expressed her sentiments and enthusiasm, describing that day as a day of pride for every Indian.

Winners of the "Bharat ko Janiye quiz"  an initiative to inspire the diaspora and friends of India to engage closely with the country  were also felicitated during the event.

Under the LiFE campaign, a unique effort was made to underscore India’s commitment to sustainability in every aspect of life. They distributed pin flags with hidden seeds and printed instructions for planting them after use.

This brought everyone’s attention to "Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam" (one tree in honour of every mother), which aims at planting 1400 trees for a greener future.

The vibrant cultural performances of Kuchipudi and patriotic songs infused energy into the event. The community members performed these songs, showcasing India’s rich heritage and their connection with Indian roots.

Sushma's children presented a beautiful medley dance performance on patriotic songs.

The event concluded with flavours of Indian cuisine, making it a memorable day for all present.

The celebrations extended till the evening, and a gala reception was organized in the ballroom of the Sofitel Hotel to celebrate this historic day.

Moreover, Sushma welcomed Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, who represented Egypt's prime minister, and other dignitaries from the Egyptian government.

In addition, esteemed representatives of international organizations and Indian companies, as well as distinguished members of the Indian community and diplomatic corps, graced the event with their presence.

During her speech, Sushma expressed her deep appreciation to the government of Egypt for its best wishes on this significant occasion.

The Indian official also expressed her satisfaction with the momentum of bilateral relations, culminating in a Strategic Partnership that has ignited engagement across various sectors.

Meanwhile, Minister Talaat highlighted the two nations' civilizational linkages and shared historical experiences.

He stressed the importance of deepening collaboration in IT, digital technologies, and other fields.

Talaat also praised the significant growth in bilateral trade and Indian investment in various sectors in Egypt.

He concluded his speech with lines from an Egyptian poem by Ahmed Shawqi, which honoured Gandhi, India, and its legacy and reflected the deep cultural connections between the two nations.

The event culminated in mesmerizing cultural performances by the students of the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, showcasing a rich tapestry of Indian art and culture.

The show also featured a patriotic song by Egyptian singer Karima, highlighting the essence of India’s diverse heritage and the vibrant cultural exchanges between the two countries.
