Russian Robotics Week launched at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Cairo and has expanded to its campuses in Alexandria and Aswan, bringing advanced Russian expertise in artificial intelligence, robotics, and modern engineering technologies to Egyptian students.

The initiative aims to support a growing educational partnership between Egypt and Russia and to strengthen engineering skills across the country.

The programme is organized in cooperation with the Russian Federal Agency for International Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), the Russian Cultural Centres in Egypt, and Stavropol State Agrarian University.

The event, which concluded on 23 November, opened at AASTMT’s Smart Village campus, where nearly 180 students took part in the opening-day activities.

Workshops focused on robotics design and operation, AI applications, automation, and smart agriculture technologies, an area where Russian research is well established.

Senior officials from Egypt and Russia attended the opening.

Vadim Zaychikov, director of the Russian Cultural Centres in Egypt, praised the students’ enthusiasm and described the initiative as an important step in strengthening scientific cooperation between the two countries.

After the Cairo launch, the programme moved to AASTMT’s Alexandria campus, where 150 students took part in sessions led by Russian robotics and innovation specialists.

Students explored new technologies, tested virtual reality (VR) applications, and participated in workshops and lectures on advanced engineering solutions.

Zaychikov also attended the Alexandria event, calling it “the beginning of a new phase of Egyptian–Russian cooperation in technological innovation.”

The delegation then travelled to AASTMT’s Aswan campus, where the experts were greeted with exceptional warmth.

The visitors noted that Aswan’s hospitality reflects the city’s long-standing connection with Russia, most notably through the construction of the Aswan High Dam and the Egypt-Russia Friendship Monument.

Several students said their grandparents had worked with Soviet engineers on the dam, adding special meaning to hosting Robotics Week in the city.

Zaychikov expressed appreciation for the reception and said the programme aims to build engineering skills, support young innovators, and ensure access to modern technologies for students across all governorates, not only in major cities.

He also recalled that Aswan once hosted a specialized training centre where Soviet experts trained Egyptian engineers, making the return of joint scientific activity especially significant.

Russian Robotics Week is part of an international educational initiative organized by Rossotrudnichestvo in partnership with Stavropol State Agrarian University and AASTMT.

The organizers hope the programme will deepen scientific and technological cooperation between Egypt and Russia and inspire the next generation of Egyptian engineers and innovators.
