US Ambassador to Egypt, Herro Mustafa Garg, opened the first Pop-Up USA event on 6 December at Luxor Temple as part of the embassy’s America250 campaign, marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of US independence. The travelling initiative is designed to bring cultural, educational, and sports programming to communities across Egypt.
“Launching ‘Pop-Up USA’ in Luxor reflects our deep appreciation for Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and our commitment to connecting directly with communities across the country,” Garg said, adding that the program aims to reach all governorates.
The event offered information on embassy-sponsored exchange programmes, academic advising, and English-language learning. It also featured a soccer clinic linked to the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and concluded with a free public concert featuring American singer Samantha Lorraine (“Samantha Takes”), Egyptian artist Ahmed El-Haggar, and the Cairo Big Band Society.

Earlier in the day, the ambassador visited Esna to review US-supported urban revitalization projects carried out by Takween Integrated Community Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The works include the restoration of the 18th-century Wakalat Al-Geddawi, upgrades to market streets and public spaces, and improved visitor services at the Temple of Khnum.
She also met with community initiatives such as the Esna Women’s Kitchen, which provides employment and entrepreneurship opportunities linked to tourism.

“Esna’s development is a powerful example of how US-Egyptian partnership, combined with American expertise and innovative partners, can protect invaluable cultural heritage while building a more prosperous future,” Garg added.

According to the embassy, US-funded interventions have helped triple Esna’s visitor numbers, attract new private investment, train more than 300 residents, and establish a tourism model intended to support small businesses. The revitalization effort has received international recognition, including awards from the UN World Tourism Organization and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
The two events underscored US engagement in Upper Egypt through cultural exchange, heritage preservation, and community development.
