The exhibition, titled Mexico 2026: Where Football Comes Alive – Geographies of Mexican Football, runs until 22 July and is free to the public. Organised in cooperation with Egypt's Ministry of Transport and the National Authority for Tunnels, it features photographs of football stadiums, neighbourhood pitches, public spaces, and landscapes across Mexico.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mexican Chargé d'Affaires Héctor Ortega, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Major General Tarek Gweily, and General Manager of RATP Dev Mobility Cairo Wadiaa Bouchiha, with NAT officials and embassy staff in attendance.

Addressing the opening, Ortega congratulated Egypt on its first World Cup victory after the national team's win over New Zealand.
"I want to start congratulating Egypt on its historic victory over New Zealand: Egypt's first-ever victory in a FIFA World Cup. This is a very special moment for Egyptian football, and we are delighted to celebrate it together with you," he said.

Ortega said the embassy chose the Cairo Metro to bring the tournament closer to the public rather than limiting cultural events to galleries or official venues.
"For Mexico, it is very important that the spirit of the World Cup reaches everyone—not only those who can attend the matches in the stadiums," he said.
"That is why this exhibition belongs here, in the Cairo Metro: a public space used every day by people. By presenting these photographs here, we are bringing a small part of Mexico into the daily life of Cairo."
He said football in Mexico extends beyond professional competition.
"In Mexico, football is much more than a sport. It is community, identity, friendship and shared emotion. Because in Mexico, the game lives everywhere."

The exhibition includes images from the three Mexican host cities—Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey—as well as photographs of football played in streets, villages, public squares, and other everyday settings across the country.

It follows an outdoor photography exhibition organised by the embassy in downtown Cairo earlier this month as part of Mexico's cultural programme accompanying the World Cup.
Cairo Stadium Station was selected because of its proximity to Cairo International Stadium, one of Egypt's main sporting venues, allowing the exhibition to reach thousands of daily commuters.
