The fashion world is on alert this time of the year with millions anticipating the new chic and classic trends- dresses, jewellery and footwear that appear on the red carpet.
The Oscars never fail to attract the attention of fashionistas and beauty seekers from all over the world. Most of the attendants look their best, and, as usual, beauties graced the red carpet displaying an array of designs that are set to make the trends for haute couture throughout the next year.
Few plunging necklines
Unlike last year where the sexy deep plunging necklines took hold of the red carpet; celebrities opted this year for high collars- best embodied by Felicity Jones.
The exceptions were Jennifer Lopez and model Chrissy Teigen.
Embellished Ivory gowns
Many beauties opted for cream and ivory designs and pale cream shades including Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore- who dressed in a Chanel dazzling dress which held a whopping number of 80 000 beads.
Faith Hill wore embellished metallic J Mendel and Jennifer Aniston wore a strapless cream squinted Versace.
Classical black and white
Angelic white was the main colour chosen by many designers. Lupita Nyongo dazzled in a heavily beaded number, Patricia Arquette wore white in a simple gown, Lady Gaga set off her white embellished gown by red gloves, and Reese Witherspoon opted for an off-shoulder white Tom Ford number, set off by straps of black.
Royal Black was present as usual- chosen by Kelly Ripa and Cate Blanchette- who was a portrait of elegance with a black Maison Margiela dress topped by a turquoise necklace. Amongst a stream of powder shades, very few opted for statement colours. They did not disappoint.
Rosamund was glamorous in a strapless red piece, Sienna Miller wore a Oscar De la Renta dress and was a model of understated elegance, as was Scarlette Johansson in her emerald green dress. All eyes were on 50 Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson, who also wore red- she was accompanied by her mother, Melanie Griffith.
Powder pink
The faint hint of pink in chiffon and satin was a very common choice on the red carpet. Karolina Kurkova dazzled in Marchesa, Gwyneth Paltrow in Ralph & Russo and Zoe Saldana was glamorous in the shade with a statement diamond necklace.
Halter necks
Halter neck cuts appeared on the carpet, although not as abundant as they were the previous year. Sienna Miller, Felicity Jones, and Naomi Watts dressed in sequined black bandeaux- a look by Armani Prive.
Ellie Saab
The Lebanese designer did not disappoint with his designs yesterday, which featured two of the main staples he is known for: heavy elegant embellishments, and shades of gold and champaign. His creations were chosen by Jennifer Lopez and Emma Stone.
