However, wouldn’t women want to know and have all there is to know and have? The emphatically casual chic of the past decade seems to be in recess, finally — something that will come as a pleasant surprise to many an Egyptian self-styled lady.
Once again, classic elegance is the name of the game. According to fashion stylist Dalia El-Hussieny, the spring of 2022 is all about the colour white.
Not the virginal variety of wedding fare, mind you: The color is to be approached, rather, in complex combination with black and sundry tints, particularly blush.
That said, green and blue — whether set against earth or metallic tones — are equally in.
Purses, on the other hand — also white, or textured, or else with a metallic sheen — grow larger and larger through the summer. These are to be approached with gusto as well.
But aside from the size of your accoutrements of choice, it is towards being a lady that the fashion conscious should be moving.
Dresses and skirts — the former with long sleeves — should suit all ages; the good news is that the wrap-around variety is preferable, making it possible to wear whatever underneath.
To counter and complement the simplicity of white on black, think too of bold wallpaper-like prints, oriental fusion patterns, and patchwork designs, El-Husseiny adds.
Both the polka dot and the stripe are welcome as well. But come summer, if you are to add such eye-catching variations to your wardrobe, you must invest in the richest materials — satin, brocade, and silk.
To match the ever-expanding size of purses, blow up the volume of either the lower or upper half of your body, whether with the help of a wrap-around dress, a bulbous skirt, or in any other way you can imagine. To complement the voluminous half, however, you must resort to a neat-fitting other half to go with it.
Metallic is not the only optical effect you should be looking for. Semi transparent, velvety effects fit the bill just as well. And when it comes to accessories, whether it’s plain white, overwhelming blue, or mind-boggling pattern, think big.
Everything from buttons to straps to pins should be oversized, and flower shapes — especially in three dimensions — are desirable for buckles and to decorate footwear and purses.
But whatever you do, remember that it is the waist — not last year’s pelvic line — that should be emphasised throughout.
Work with bows and ribbons and arrange the two halves of your gorgeous body accordingly.
The fashion world is a fickle place, but so — come to think of it — is your psyche. Take your time initially, thinking ahead.
The beauty of it is that much of what conditions the year’s guiding principle — soft, flowing, elegant, and feminine — will work equally well in seasons to come. But the waistline is dangerous territory, not to put too fine a point on it.
Slim down as fast as you can if possible and approach the season with the confidence only self belief can muster. Who knows, you might be setting the trend before you know it.
