Following lengthy negotiations, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) Board of Directors selected the Hassan Allam consortium to provide and operate services at the museum, which is set to receive visitors later this year.

The consortium comprises Egyptian, British, French, and Emirati companies specialising in a variety of fields, including business administration, marketing, hospitality, promotions, quality control, and health and safety.

The selection was made during the board's recent meeting, headed by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Enany. The decision was based on the outcomes of the Problem-Solving Committee and the Panel of Experts that were formed by a cabinet decree.

In mid-2018, the GEM announced an international call to submit applications for providing and operating its services. Eight international consortiums came forward, five of which passed the preliminary qualifying round. The technical committees’ efforts resulted in the selection of three consortiums. The efforts of the panels in charge of the assessment process narrowed down the decision to between two consortiums.

Multiple meetings were held with the finalists to negotiate the best financial and technical bid for Egypt.

The museum's general supervisor, Major General Atef Muftah, stated that the decision was preceded by rounds of lengthy and meticulous negotiations to maximise Egypt’s returns and magnify its share in the provision and operation of services at the Grand Egyptian Museum

The talks targeted reaching the highest operational level that matches the grandeur of one of the largest museums in the world.
