The video, widely shared on social media, shows a woman using a brush and apparently assisting in what appears to be restoration work, under the guidance of a site worker.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy directed an immediate legal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the video.
He vowed to take legal action against those responsible.
In today’s statement, the ministry said the tourist was not using paint but a cleaning product commonly used on stone surfaces, which it asserted poses no risk to the monument.
The Egyptian ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s historical and cultural treasures.
It also warned that all legal measures will be taken against any actions that could harm Egypt’s unique heritage monuments.
