In its fifth edition this year, the Backstreet Festival brought a wide range of artistic activities to Alexandria, including films, clown shows, creative visual technologies, puppets and an a cappella band.
"The Joy Project" is a multidisciplinary festival that was held from 12 to 16 April across several venues in Alexandria, including the Jesuit Cultural Center, the Saint Gabriel Sporting Club, the French Institute of Alexandria, the Spanish Consulate and Teatro Eskendria.
The project was the brainchild of Mahmoud Abu Doma and Amina Abu Doma.
Among the international performances featured in the festival were Lemon Squeezy Quartet from Sweden, Fault Line from British multimedia artist Rebecca Smith, BandArt from Spain -- who presented Ann-Droid: The Wonderful Adventures of a Robot Girl -- and "To R Mansion" from Japan.
The performances also included two shows from Egypt: El-Sakia Puppet Theater and Asyad El-Zar.
