President of AAPSO Dr. Helmy El-Haddidi announced the decision on Tuesday.

The AAPSO, an international NGO, was founded during the tenure of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel-Nasser following the 1955 Bandung conference.

The WUAALA was founded three years later in 1958 after its inaugural conference in Turkey, having its first headquarters in Sri Lanka, with the renowned writer Youssef El-Sebai as its initial president.

Over the years, it has been led by various prominent figures in literature and culture, including the distinguished writers Abdul Rahman Al-Sharqawi and Lotfi Al-Khouli.

The union, originally representing 35 countries from Asia and Africa, expanded its reach during the 2013 conference in Vietnam to include Latin America.

In 2019, during a gathering in Rabat, Morocco, journalist Sherif El-Shoubashi was elected as the Secretary-General of the WUAALA for a five-year term until 2023.

El-Meslemany is set to commence his tenure by restructuring the organization and appointing two Assistant Secretary-Generals, one from Africa and the other from Asia.

El-El-Meslemany was born in Egypt’s Nile Delta governorate of Gharbia and graduated from Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Science.

He previously worked at the Al-Ahram Establishment and was president of the Cairo Centre for Strategic Studies.

He also served as an advisor to late Nobel laureate professor Ahmed Zewail, and an advisor to former Egypt’s President Adly Mansour.

El-Meslemany is a regular contributor with a weekly column in the Emirati Union newspaper and the Lebanese Asas Media.

One notable project in his portfolio is the editing and presentation of Zewail's book titled 'The Age of Science,' which includes an introduction by the world-renowned writer Naguib Mahfouz.

El-Meslemany also authored several publications, including works such as 'Modernity and Politics,' 'Landmarks without a Road,' 'Greater Egypt,' 'Jihad Against Jihad,' 'A Nation in Peril,' and 'Political Engineering.'
