A funeral was held in Paris on Saturday for the late internationally-acclaimed Egyptian economist and thinker Samir Amin in the presence of a delegation from the Egyptian embassy.

A host of public and political figures from France and other countries were also present. Amin, who passed away last month at the age of 87, was buried in a cemetery in a Parisian suburb.

During the service, Egypt's charge d'affaires, Hisham el-Maqwad, expressed his condolences to the Egyptian government, people, and family of the late economist.

Amin was born in Egypt in 1931 to an Egyptian father and French mother and spent his youth in Port Said.
