Ten things to know about Egypt’s Spring Flowers Show 2021

After it was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Egypt’s Spring Flowers Show is back again

After it was cancelled last year due to a  partial lockdown imposed by the Egyptian government to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, Egypt’s Spring Flowers Show is back again in March 2021.

Following are ten things you need to know about it:

1- The Spring Flowers Show 2021 runs from 13 March to 13 April.

2- It is organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture

3-This is the 87th edition of the show, which is the oldest running flowers exhibition in the Middle East. Although it was officially launched in 1934, its history goes back to the reign of Sultan Hussein Kamel, when the Egyptian Gardening Society opened the first fair in 1914.

4-It is held at Orman Botanical Garden in Giza, which is also one of the oldest botanical gardens in the region. Inaugurated in 1875 by order of Egypt's Khedive Ismail, the show features around 1,200 rare types of plants non-indigenous to Egypt.

5-There are nearly 600 types of plants and trees in this year's show.

6-As many as 238 landscaping companies and flowers nurseries as well as local and foreign companies are participating in this year's edition.

7-The price of a plant starts as low as EGP 5 and goes up to EGP 10,000.

8-The most expensive flower in the show is “The Sebastian” flower, which is sold for nearly EGP 3,000.

9-The Ministry of Agriculture hopes the fair will attract one million visitors.

10-The fair opens daily from 9 am till 9 pm till 13 April.
