The new stations are located in Al-Dakhla in the New Valley governorate, Siwa in Matrouh governorate, and Hurghada in the Red Sea governorate, the minister stated.

These stations largely contribute to predicting and detecting rainfall and determining its quantity and distribution across the country in a way that helps taking immediate measures to avoid the devastating effects of floods, he said.

Abdel-Ati said the stations are part of the ministry's digital transformation efforts.

The announcement was made as several parts of Egypt are seeing a wave of unstable weather.

Many northern areas and Greater Cairo witnessed thunder, rainfall, and a drop in temperatures.

Ponds of rainwater in parts of Cairo and Giza resulted in numerous traffic congestions on Saturday. 

Authorities in various governorates deployed trucks to main roads and squares to remove rainwater and restore smooth traffic.

Rain storms across the country have reached their peak on Saturday midnight. Mild to moderate rainfall is expected on the northern coast and northern Delta on Monday.
