Egypt reports 899 new coronavirus cases, 63 deaths on Thursday

Egypt reported 899 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, bringing the total infection tally officially to 353,923 since the outbreak began in February 2020, the health ministry said in its daily COVID-19 update statement.

The ministry also reported 63 new COVID-linked deaths in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 20,172.

The statement added that 741 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 294,354.

Egypt has administered 44.2 million shots, according to acting health minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar.

Egypt secured a total of 80.5 million doses of WHO-approved Covid-19 vaccines, according to Abdel-Ghaffar.

On Wednesday, the government approved administering third booster shots of the coronavirus vaccines for the most vulnerable groups in the country.
