Sisi discusses cooperation with CEO of France's Dassault

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Monday cooperation with CEO of French plane-maker Dassault Aviation S.A. Eric Trappier, who is currently participating in the second edition of the Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX 2021) in Cairo, the Egyptian presidency announced.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of EDEX 2021, which was inaugurated by President El-Sisi on Monday.

Egypt has made several purchases of French military hardware in recent years.

In April 2017, Egypt received three Dassault Aviation-built Rafale fighter jets from France, the third batch from a deal signed in 2015. The deal involves the sale of 24 Rafale jets and a FREMM (Frégate Européenne Multi-Missions) multipurpose frigate.

Egypt also purchased four Gowind 2500 Corvette naval vessels from a deal signed in 2014, the last vessel arrived in Alexandria in October 2017.

In May 2021, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced it signed a new deal with Dassault Aviation company to buy 30 French Rafale fighter jets.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi also met on the sidelines of EDEX the CEO of South Korean military giant Hanwha Defense, who is currently participating in the second edition of the Egypt Defense Expo.
