Egypt’s National Authority for Military Production (NAMP) and the UAE’s Emirates Defence Companies Council (EDCC) signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bolster cooperation in the field of defensive industries, a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of State for Military Production — which oversees the NAMP — announced.

The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the third day of the Egypt Defence Expo (EDX 2021), in which the EDCC participated alongside 400 other companies representing 42 countries.

Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi and Khalifa Ali Al Kaabi, the Department Head of the Defence Technology and Industries Department of the UAE’s Ministry of Defence, and others attended the ceremony.

Morsi said the step aims to foster cooperating in the field of defence industry by exchanging expertise, facilitating the establishment of partnerships between both countries, and localising industries and technologies.

The agreement also comes in light of the long-established ties between the two countries as well as the unprecedented development in the Egyptian and Emirati national industries as well as the enormous capabilities possessed by both the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production and the EDCC, Morsi added.

Chairman of the EDCC Matar Ali Al-Romaithi voiced his country’s keenness to bolster the strategic partnership with various authorities and companies participating in the EDX 2021, especially companies affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production.

In its second edition, the EDX 2021 provides a platform for weapons and arms manufacturers to showcase their cutting-edge equipment in the defence and security domains.

The exhibition, which kicked off on Monday and is set to conclude on Thursday, is being held at Egypt’s International Convention and Exhibition Centre in New Cairo under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
