Egyptian expats can register for the policy online with the Egyptian Pool for Travel Insurance (EPTI)  through the pool's website https://epti-egy.org/ep/ and paying an insurance premium of EGP 100 annually, Makram said in a statement.

Egyptians living abroad are estimated at 13 million, according to recent emigration ministry figures. Meanwhile, Egyptian living in the homeland amount to 102.7 million, according to most recent official figures.

Egyptian expats' remittances reached $31.4 billion in FY2020/2021, increasing 13% compared to FY2019/2020 and 70% compared to FY2013/2014.

in recent years, the state has been encouraging expats to play an active role in supporting various development projects at home.

In 2017, some 68.4 percent of Egyptian expats resided and worked in Arab countries, according to statistics agency CAPMAS. However, this figure fell to 54.6 percent in 2019 due to instability in the region.

A maximum age of 65 has been set for expats looking to register for the insurance policy, which covers accidental and natural deaths, the statement said. 

The EPTI should be notified of an injury or death within seven days.

Medical reports, death certificates and other documents verifying accidents should be summitted to the EPTI, and those who fail to submit these documents forfeit their right to compensation.

The EPTI will be committed to disbursing a sum of EGP 100,000 in case of accidental deaths and will cover the cost of transporting the body of the deceased back home. 

The insurance payment would be disbursed to legal heirs, the statement said.

In the case of natural deaths, the EPTI will only pay to transport the deceased back home.
