In a statement on Friday, Yahya Zakaria, the chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, added that the national carrier will also be operating seven direct flights from Cairo to John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, and three to Washington DC.

The launching of the Newark route is part of  EgyptAir's plans to fly to more regions in the near future, Zakaria explained.

Meanwhile, Ihab Eltahtawi, the chairman of EgyptAir Airlines, said the company decision to operate routes to Newark was based on studies of its customers' needs.

"EgyptAir found that New Jersey, along with New York and Washington DC, is one of the promising markets that are witnessing significant growth," Eltahtawi noted.

Tens of thousands of Egyptian immigrants to the US live and work in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut Metropolitan area.

Eltahtawi added that the company will give 1,000 miles to members of its frequent flyer program on the first flight to Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey.
