The protesters are expressing their condemnation of the Israeli army's shelling of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, which led to the tragic deaths of at least 600 Palestinian civilians.
In Alexandria governorate, large scattered protests have taken place to express solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, who are under the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation forces.
In Giza, thousands of citizens are protesting in El-Hosary Square, while hundreds of students from El-Fayoum University organized protests on Wednesday.
The students chanted slogans condemning the Israeli occupation and held banners with messages of support for their brothers and sisters in Palestine.
Similar protests took place at universities in Alexandria, Mansoura, Minya, and Cairo, including at the American University in Cairo (AUC).
El-Sisi has declared a period of national mourning for three days for the innocent Palestinian victims of the hospital shelling, a statement by the Egyptian presidency announced on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, volunteers from the Decent Life Foundation and the National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) staged a sit-in in front of the Rafah crossing to protest the relocation of Palestinians into Sinai and Israel's refusal to allow safe passage for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The sit-in came in response to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's call for protest during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held at the Presidential Palace earlier on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Rafah received around 3,000 tons of food and medical aid from various Egyptian NGOs and entities for delivery to Gaza.
