The fire did not cause any deaths, but a limited number of people suffered smoke inhalation and had to be treated at the city's medical centre.

An unknown number of patients were transferred to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The EMPC media complex covers an area of 35 million square metres and is responsible for broadcasting most local channels.

On Saturday, a major fire in Cairo destroyed the 80-year-old Al-Ahram Studio in Cairo's Giza district - one of the Arab world's most prestigious and oldest film production houses.
