Tantawy hoped to run for president in the 2024 elections but failed to secure the required endorsements from at least 25,000 people.
He was taken into custody from inside the court after the ruling to begin serving his sentence, as stated by lawyer Khaled Ali on Twitter.
The court also upheld a one-year sentence for the manager of Tantawy's presidential campaign and 21 members of the campaign team on the same charges, which stem from incidents in 2023.
Ali added that he will file an appeal against the ruling.
In February, a misdemeanour court sentenced Tantawy to one year in prison for printing and circulating “unauthorised” endorsement forms.
The court also banned Tantawy from running in parliamentary elections for five years.
Tantawy and his staff had been referred to trial by the Public Prosecution in November 2023.
