Egyptian Navy foils attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country

The Egyptian Naval Forces intercepted a fishing boat carrying quantities of the narcotic plant, commonly known as marijuana or "bango" locally, as it attempted to smuggle them into the country.

According to the Egyptian Armed Forces spokesperson statement, a coastal monitoring station near Sharm El-Sheikh detected suspicious activity from unauthorized fishing boats.

The Navy, as a result, dispatched units to inspect the boat, seizing 345 rolls of marijuana from one of these vessels, the statement added.

The confiscated drugs were handed over to authorities for further legal action.

The military spokesperson said the operation is part of the Armed Forces’ efforts to secure and protect the country’s borders in various strategic directions.
