The airdrops were carried out under the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the military spokesman on Saturday.

The move is part of Egypt's ongoing cooperation with friendly nations to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians due to the military operations in Gaza, the statement added.

Egypt has conducted multiple aid airdrops since the start of the Israeli blockade on Gaza on 7 October 2023.

Israel's yearlong war, one of the deadliest and most destructive in recent history, has killed at least 42,438 Palestinians and injured 99,246 others in the Gaza Strip, most of them being women and children.

It has also destroyed much of the strip's infrastructure and severed supplies of food, water, and medicine, placing its 2.3 million residents on the brink of famine.

More than 80 percent of Gaza’s people have been driven out of their homes, most of whom are now crowded into squalid tent camps and facing widespread hunger.
