According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty reaffirmed during the presser Egypt’s support for Mali’s efforts to restore security and regain control over its territories.
He also highlighted Egypt’s multidimensional approach as a model for successfully addressing terrorism through security, social, and economic measures.
Moreover, he expressed Cairo's keenness to continue supporting the capabilities of Mali's national institutions across various sectors.
This includes training programmes organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding, as well as scholarships offered to Malian students to study at Al-Azhar and Egyptian universities.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of creating job opportunities for youth, dismantling extremist ideologies with the help of religious institutions to protect youth against recruitment by terrorist groups, and stopping supplies to terror organizations.
In addition, he touched upon the full cooperation between the foreign and defence ministries in Egypt and Mali to help the African country fight terrorism.
The meeting also addressed political and security developments in West Africa and the Horn of Africa, regional escalation of violence, and Egypt’s water security concerns.
In this regard, the two ministers stressed the need for enhanced coordination on shared concerns and supporting efforts to achieve stability and peace in the region.
For his part, FM Diop has voiced appreciation for Egypt’s crucial role and strenuous efforts to reach peaceful solutions to the Middle East and Africa crises.
He also praised Egypt’s support for Mali’s sovereignty and unity during regional and international meetings.
Furthermore, Diop acknowledged Egypt's support for the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
Bilateral relations
Diop added that the presser reflected mutual keenness to boost bilateral political and diplomatic ties.
He also commended the longstanding economic, trade, and religious relations between the two African countries, noting that the Malian government will encourage Egyptian companies to invest in his country's health and drug sectors.
According to the statement, both parties agreed on the importance of enhancing cooperation frameworks and increasing trade investments, focusing on the health, construction, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors.
