Egypt, UK FMs discuss Gaza ceasefire, prisoner exchange agreement

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed in a phone call on Thursday with his UK counterpart David Lammy recent developments in Gaza, particularly the prisoner exchange agreement and the efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire.

During the call, Lammy expressed the UK’s appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role and President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's leadership in achieving the agreement.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty briefed his British counterpart on Egypt’s extensive efforts to broker the agreement in collaboration with Qatar and the United States.

He emphasized the critical importance of expanding the delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza in the coming phase, rehabilitating hospitals and health centres, and facilitating the return of displaced individuals to alleviate humanitarian suffering in the region.

Abdelatty also stressed the significance of implementing the agreement in its various phases and ensuring its continuity. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the agreement in close coordination with Qatar and the United States.
