According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the meeting aims to exchange views and assessments on the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, address the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and discuss the recognition of the Palestinian state.

AFP stated that the Saudi FM Faisal bin Farhan and Jordanian FM Ayman Al Safadi will participate in the meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming UN conference on the two-state solution, which Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair.

The conference, held from 17 to 20 June at the UN headquarters in New York, aims to secure UN member states' recognition of a Palestinian state.

On Monday, France, the UK, and Canada threatened "concrete actions" against Israel if it doesn't halt its renewed offensive on Gaza and lift humanitarian aid restrictions.

Following his visit to Egypt, President Emmanuel Macron said in April that France is planning to recognise the Palestinian state within months and could make the move at the upcoming UN conference.

Nearly 150 countries recognise the Palestinian state. This recognition has allowed Palestine observer status at the UN but not full membership, which requires the Security Council's vote.
