Egypt, Vietnam sign LOI to enhance military cooperation

Egyptian Minister of Defence and Military Production General Abdel Mageed Saqr and Vietnamese Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang signed a letter of intent (LOI) during a meeting in Cairo to enhance military cooperation between the two countries.

This occurred during Minister Giang's current visit to Egypt as part of a high-ranking delegation led by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, who is expected to meet President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi later on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Saqr underlined the importance of coordinating efforts and expanding military cooperation to serve the shared interests of both countries.

For his part, the Vietnamese defence minister expressed his country's keenness on exchanging military expertise with Egypt in the near future.

Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa and several military commanders from both nations attended the meeting.

On Friday, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Nguyen Huy Dung said President Cuong’s visit to Egypt holds strategic significance and is expected to exert a lasting impact on the advancement of bilateral relations, as both nations embark on a new era of growth and development.

The Vietnamese president is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Senate President Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek, and House of Representatives Speaker Hanafy El-Gebaly and deliver a policy speech at the Arab League headquarters.

He will also meet with staff of the Vietnamese embassy and relevant agencies, along with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Egypt.
