Egypt will switch to daylight saving time (DST), locally known as summer time, at midnight at the start of Friday, 24 April, moving clocks forward by one hour from 12:00 am to 1:00 am and shifting from GMT+2 to GMT+3.

Egypt observes DST each year from the last Friday in April until the final Thursday in October per a 2023 law.

The country first introduced DST in 1957 and applied it on and off over the following decades. It was last used in 2014 during electricity shortages before being suspended for nearly a decade.

DST was reinstated in April 2023, with the government estimating it could reduce electricity use by up to 10 percent.

This aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to reduce energy consumption amid mounting global economic challenges linked to regional conflicts.
