Egypt’s defence minister meets Saddam, Khaled Haftar for talks on military cooperation
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher met with Lieutenant Gen. Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, and Lieutenant Gen. Khaled Haftar, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan National Army, to discuss military cooperation, border security, and irregular migration, the Egyptian Armed Forces said.
The meeting took place during the Libyan commanders’ official visit to Egypt to attend the graduation ceremony of new cohorts from the Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies.
It was attended by Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, and several military commanders from both countries.
Talks focused on issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen military cooperation between the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces.
Zaher expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its longstanding ties with Libya and affirmed Cairo’s commitment to supporting the Libyan people and armed forces, according to the statement.
He also stressed the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to secure the border, curb irregular migration, and support security and stability across Libya.
For their part, Saddam Haftar and Khaled Haftar expressed appreciation for Egypt’s “firm positions” in support of Libya’s unity and territorial integrity, voicing hope for broader military cooperation in the coming period.
