The negotiation process on climate issues at the COP27 is achieving success, Kerry told a group of journalists from various media outlets, including Ahram Online, on Monday.
Egypt has made progress on climate issues and the US is keen to support it, he said.
Kerry described the inclusion for the first time the issue of loss and damages into the official agenda of COP as “a good step.”
He said that the US aims to move forward with regard to reducing carbon emissions because of its importance, stressing that his country will not move backwards on this issue.
“The United States is trying to build on what has been achieved on the issue of combating climate change,” he added.
Kerry held several meetings with Egyptian officials on the sidelines of the conference including a meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is also the COP27 president.
On Friday, US President Joe Biden announced during his speech in Sharm El-Sheikh that the US, the European Union and Germany will provide a package of $500 million to finance and facilitate Egypt's transition to clean energy.
On Saturday, the US, Egypt and Germany released a statement outlining a plan for accelerating Egypt’s energy transition through the country’s Nexus of Food, Water, and Energy (NWFE) programme.
The United States and Germany said they are committed to mobilise more than $250 million to support the deployment of 10 GW of new wind and solar energy projects while decommissioning five GW of inefficient natural gas generation.
COP27, which is being held from 6 to 18 November, has seen the participation of dozens of world leaders and heads of state and more than 40,000 participants.
The eighth day of the COP27, which is held under the theme “together for implementation,” is focused on issues of gender and water.
The first week of the conference witnessed repeated calls for developed countries to fulfil climate pledges, ensure the provision of climate finance to developing states, and push forward climate action collectively.
