Alain Gresh to discuss Éric Rouleau's 'Truth and Lies in the Middle East' at AUC

Prominent French-Egyptian journalist Alain Gresh, the former editor-in-chief of Le Monde Diplomatique and editor at the online newspaper OrientXXI, will discuss the memoirs of late French-Egyptian journalist Éric Rouleau in Cairo on Wednesday 16 October.

The book discussion will be held at the American University in Cairo's School of Global Affairs and Public Policy in New Cairo at the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Hall, Room 2175.

Rouleau's book is titled 'Truth and Lies in the Middle East: Memoirs of a Veteran Journalist, 1952-2012.' The discussion will be held at 1pm.

Rouleau, who died in February 2015, was one of the most famous journalists who worked in the Middle East, reporting for Le Monde, AFP, and many other news outlets. He knew the Middle East like no other foreign journalist, and met with almost every decision maker in the region during the past 50 years. The book is a must read.

Gresh specialises in the Middle East and is often described as the best commentator on the affairs of the region. He was the editor-in-chief of the prestigious Le Monde Diplomatique until his retirement at the end of 2015. Gresh was born and raised in Cairo and is the son of Henri Curiel, the well-known communist activist.

He is best known for his books 'The Middle East: War Without End?' and 'Israel, Palestine: Truths of a Conflict.'
