The Palestinian health ministry said on Tuesday that 47 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces in October.

The latest death of a Palestinian, announced hours ago by the health ministry, occurred when Israeli forces shot dead 24-year old Odai Hashem. He was shot in the back of the head from close range by live ammunition.

The ministry released the figure after weeks of an Israeli crackdown on Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem, Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The statement says the vitims include 10 children, eight killed in the occupied West Bank and two in Gaza.

More than 1,850 Palestinians wounded in clashes with Israel occupation forces were injured by live or rubber bullets, according to the statement.

3,500 other Palestinian protesters suffered asphyxia because of teargas used by Israeli troops.

In the West Bank 410 were wounded by live bullets and 700 by rubber bullets, while 160 protesters were beaten by Israeli settlers and soldiers, and 10 suffered burn injuries.

In Gaza 290 were injured by live bullets and 70 by rubber bullets, the ministry said.

Nine Israelis have been killed in the recent clashes according to AP, most of them soldiers.

Israeli occupation forces said that they have arrested 490 Palestinians - 212 of them minors - for various offences since the start October, the Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.

Palestinians have been protesting for weeks against Israel's attempts to build more settlements in East Jerusalem and force out Arab residents of the city that is meant to be a capital for any future Palestinian state.

Palestinians have also been protesting repeated Israeli and illegal Jewish settler attacks on Al-Aqsa mosque and the closing of the Muslim holy site on a number of occasions to worshippers.

The current wave of protests and repression started in late July when 18-month old toddler Ali Dawabsha was burned to death and three other Palestinians severely injured after their house in the occupied West Bank was set on fire by Israeli settlers. The parents of the toddler, Riham and Saad, and their other son Ahmad later lost their lives after suffering serious injuries in the arson attack.
