Darwish's passion and doctoral thesis was on ancient Egyptian black ceramics. His works are nationally and internationally accredited and celebrated.
For almost a year now, his museum has been at risk of demolition to build a bridge and a small road off Sakkara Road in the Giza governorate.
His family’s efforts to stop the demolition were supported by the Ministry of Culture and members of the Egyptian parliament, with both issuing statements that verified its heritage value.
However, on Tuesday, the artist's daughter Sarah Nabil Darwish explained that despite all such positive feedback, the transportation ministry called them up and said it would push through the demolition order effectively sometime before Eid Al-Adha.
Although the exit of the bridge has already been built and the exit spared the premises, the ministry wants to demolish the iconic museum to make room for a small side route.
