Veteran Egyptian actor Fekry Sadeq dies at 80

Egyptian actor Fekry Sadeq, who played a prosecutor in the evergreen Layali El-Helmeya TV series, died on Friday at the age of 80, his son Morad revealed on social media.

Sadeq was born on 9 January 1945 in Cairo.

A Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts graduate, he began his artistic journey in the early 1970s, taking roles in theatre, cinema and TV series.

Among his first theatre appearances was in the play Husbands Without a Past (1975).

Though Sadeq focused on film and television series as an actor, he occasionally returned to theatre stages, performing in several commercial works such as Body Guard (1999) starring Adel Emam.

Throughout more than 50 years of his career, Sadeq worked with renowned directors and alongside well-known Egyptian actors.

He appeared in more than 40 films, including Forbidden Pictures (1972), The Time of Emad Al-Din (2002), Touch Me Love (2005), Hassan w Morcos (2008), Court Arguments (2014), Narrow Lane (2015), Mohamed Ali Street (2017), among others.

Sadeq played a variety of characters in more than 200 TV series, often appearing in several titles a year and in more than 10 productions in his peak years - between the late 1980s and the early 2000s - becoming one of the influential faces in Egyptian television and leaving a unique mark. 

His breakthrough came from roles in the Adel Emam-Said Saleh classic film Salam Ya Sa7bi (1986) and One Thousand and One Nights TV series (1987) with Hussein Fahmy and Naglaa Fathi.

These roles were followed by his successes in Me, You, and Dad in Dismay (1989), Layali El-Helmeya (1992), and Justice in Islam (2003), all TV series that aired during the popular Ramadan season.

His latest TV series included Arab's Right (2024), Ramadan Kareem 2 (2023), Except Me (2021), Nasr El-Saeed (2018), five seasons of Cycle of Blood (2013-2018), etc.

The funeral of the late actor took place in Cairo today.

The wake is yet to be announced.
