This extraordinary double triumph, achieved on Tunisian soil, reflects the rise of a new golden generation that promises to carry the nation’s flag with pride on the global stage.
The U-16 girls’ team delivered a spectacular performance in the final, defeating host nation Tunisia in straight sets (3-0). In front of a passionate Tunisian crowd and with Egypt’s Ambassador to Tunisia Bassem Hassan in attendance, the young Pharaohs showcased tactical brilliance, mental resilience and sheer determination. They completed the tournament unbeaten, sweeping through the group stage with full marks, overcoming Morocco in the semi-finals (3-0), before sealing their continental glory against Tunisia. Their victory embodied not just technical mastery but also the grit and spirit that define Egyptian champions.
Equally impressive was the journey of the U-16 boys’ team who mirrored the success of their female counterparts with an identical 3-0 triumph over Tunisia in the final. Dominant from the outset, the boys combined speed, strength and discipline, confirming their supremacy across the continent and writing their names into the record books.
This historic double qualification is the fruit of years of strategic planning by the Egyptian Volleyball Federation under the leadership of Yasser Qamar. Speaking after the twin victories, Qamar hailed the achievement as “a turning point in Egyptian volleyball history”.
“Winning both African titles on the same day and qualifying both our boys and girls’ U-16 teams to the World Championships for the first time ever is a testament to the federation’s vision, the dedication of our coaches, and the boundless spirit of our young athletes.”
Qamar also expressed gratitude to Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi and President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee Yasser Idris for their unwavering support. He highlighted the vital role of the federation’s executive management, led by Executive Director and National Teams Manager Hassan Abed whose tireless efforts, Qamar said, helped create the conditions for success.
Abed, often described as the driving force behind the federation’s operations, praised the resilience of the players. “These young boys and girls have written history for Egyptian volleyball. What makes this achievement even more special is that it is the first time ever that both teams qualify together for the World Championships. It is proof that careful planning, strong preparation and a belief in our youth can produce miracles.”
The role of leadership within the delegations also proved essential. Mona Abdel-Karim, treasurer of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation and head of the Egyptian delegation in Tunisia, emphasised the unity and determination of the squads.
“From the very first day, I witnessed the focus, discipline and willpower of our young athletes. Their energy was extraordinary. This double victory is not only a triumph for volleyball but also a proud moment for Egypt as a whole. I am confident they will represent our country with the same passion on the world stage.”
Both teams were guided by highly experienced technical staff. The girls were led by head coach Tahani Tousson, assisted by general coach Nashat Talaat, analyst Amr Rabie, physiotherapist Ashraq Nasser, and team manager Amani Rashid.
Meanwhile, the boys were steered by head coach Mohamed Al-Laqani, with support from general coach Mohamed Bakhit, analyst Ibrahim Mohamed, rehabilitation specialist Mustafa Yousri, and team manager Mohamed Ahmed Dessouki. Their rosters featured some of the country’s brightest young talents, players already tipped to be the future stars of Egyptian volleyball.
This twin success, unprecedented in African volleyball history, is more than just a sporting achievement; it is a declaration of Egypt’s arrival as a continental powerhouse and a beacon of hope for the global stage.
