The Palestinian resistance group informed US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace that it stood by the latest stage of the plan, under which the group would hand over weapons to a nascent Palestinian governing committee that would oversee the governonce and reconstruction of Gaza nearly three years after the start of Israel's genocidal war on the strip.
"Hamas and other factions have confirmed to mediators their readiness to begin implementing the agreement and move to the second phase, provided it receives Israeli approval and that Israel begins implementing the agreement," a Hamas official told AFP.
"Hamas is urging the US administration to exert pressure on Israel to compel it to abide by the agreement and move to the second phase," the official said on condition of anonymity.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that Israel had not agreed to the draft presented by the Board of Peace.
Meanwhile, Israeli ministers are pressing for an escalation in Israel's genocidal war on the Gaza Strip and urging the government to reject a roadmap for the second phase of US President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan, Israeli media reported earlier on Friday.
The calls came during a meeting of Israel's Security Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Thursday evening to discuss the roadmap for the plan's second phase, according to the Israel Hayom newspaper.
Trump last week had hailed as a breakthrough that Hamas had agreed to disarmament under the plan, with the Board of Peace saying Israel would in tandem carry out a phased withdrawal from much of Gaza.
Netanyahu met Monday with the Board of Peace's high representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, who backtracked and said Israel would withdraw only after a full disarmament by Hamas.
But Israeli operations in Gaza, while ongoing, appear to have increased in intensity in recent days. On Saturday, the Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis reported three people injured by Israeli army gunfire.
Gaza’s Government Media Office said Thursday that Israel had committed 4,091 ceasefire violations over 300 days, killing at least 1,254 Palestinians and injuring 4,121 others. Israeli occupation forces also detained 159 Palestinians during the same period.
The Media Office also accused Israel of continuing to obstruct the entry of food and humanitarian assistance into Gaza. According to figures released by the office, Israel allowed only 63,094 of the 180,000 aid trucks that were supposed to enter Gaza during the period covered by the agreement, a compliance rate of approximately 35 percent.
Since the ceasefire agreement took effect in October, Israel has continued to violate the deal through daily attacks on Gaza, killing at least 1,252 Palestinians, including 300 children, and injuring 4,120 others, most of them women and children.
The Israeli army currently occupies 70 percent of the Gaza Strip following a genocidal war that killed at least 73,300 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 since October 2023, most of them women and children.
