Zamalek's returning coach Jaime Pacheco says he rejoined the Whites with greater passion, saying that winning the African Champions League title is his priority with the current excellent group of players.
"I am happy to return back to Zamalek. Years passed since my departure and I would like to thank president Mortada Mansour, the board and the fans to give me the chance again," the Portuguese tactician Pacheco said in a video posted via Zamalek's TV channel early on Tuesday after signing a one-year contract with the Cairo giants.
"I had a good group of players in my first spell [in 2014] with Zamalek and this time the group is excellent. My target is to win the African Chmapions League title," the 62-year old coach added.
Pacheco takes charge of Zamalek for a second spell as the club concluded a frantic search for a new boss following the shocking, sudden departure of Frenchman Patrice Carteron, who rescinded his contract to join Saudi side Al-Taawoun last week.
In 2014, Zamalek won nine games out of 12 under Pacheco, drawing twice and losing once before he also suddenly quit the club on January 1, 2015 to take over at Saudi side Al-Shabab.
Pacheco's primary target this time will be helping Zamalek end their league campaign as runners-up and delivering their first Champions League title since 2002.
"I am happy and proud to return back here. I returned this time with greater passion," said Pacheco.
Pacheco, who watched Zamalek beating league rivals Gouna 4-3 on penalties from the stands, will officially start his mission when the club faces Masry on Thursday.
Zamalek are set to meet Morocco's Rajaa Casablanca in a two-legged Champions League semifinal next month.
However, the Cairo Giants can hardly afford to rest their key regulars for the Rajaa clash given their tight race in the Egyptian league with Pyramids for the league's second place, which earns qualification to the next Champions League.
Zamalek are currently second in the league table with 61 points from 30 matches, seven points ahead of third place Pyramids.
