Arsenal's Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny says he is really grateful for the trust coach Mikel Arteta has shown in him since Elneny's return from being out on loan.

"I know him and played with him, and I always tried to learn from him. He gives us information before the game to make the mission easier for us. I'm really grateful that he can trust me and put me in the starting 11," Elneny told Sky Sports ahead of facing Sheffield United on Sunday.

Elneny made three league appearances out of four so far this season, playing full time against Fulham and Liverpool before being included in the starting line-up for the Sheffield game.

"I do my best to help the team to achieve our targets," he added.

After spending last season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas, the future of the 28-year-old Elneny was doubtful with the Gunners, but he quickly managed to gain Arteta's confidence after delivering outstanding performances in the pre-season camp.

The Egyptian international also helped the team win the Community Shield following a shootout victory over Premier League holders Liverpool last month.

Arteta hailed the display by Elneny in the team's 3-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League opener, saying the midfielder only needs a "little bit of belief."

The former Basel FC player, whose current contract runs until 2023, has been at Arsenal since 2016, but has failed to establish himself at the Emirates and has fallen out of favour, especially during the tenure of former coach Unai Emery.

His lack of play time has cost him his place in the Egyptian national team, having been dropped by coach Hossam El-Badry in March for the first time since he made his international debut in 2011.
