Handball: Egypt start mission in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games against Portugal

Egypt’s handball national team will start their mission in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games by playing against Portugal on Saturday 24 July, two days before facing the 27th Men's Handball World Championship winners, Denmark.

The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group B of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games alongside Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Japan, and Bahrain.

The twelve participants in the Handball Olympic games have been divided into two groups, as only four teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, after which knockout games will be played.

Egypt have reached the Tokyo Olympic Games after claiming the African Championship title.

Egypt, hosts of the 27th Men’s Handball World Championship, finished seventh after putting on a spirited display, but losing 39:38 to title winners Denmark after a dramatic quarter-final game that needed penalties to be settled.

The 2020 Olympic Games is an international multi-sport event scheduled to take place behind closed doors from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

It was originally due to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020 but was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
