Tunisia maintained their perfect start to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after beating Zambia 2-0 on Tuesday in Lusaka to go top of Group B with six points.

Veteran striker Wahbi Khazri opened the scoring as early as the ninth minute from the spot and Anis Ben Slimane ensured the victory deep in injury time.

Zambia largely dominated the game but could not find a way through Tunisia's defence.

Already group favourites, the Carthage Eagles are comfortably leading the group with six points, three ahead of Zambi. Equatorial Guinea and Mauritania remain pointless.

In Group G, Ethiopia revived their hopes with a 94th-minute penalty from Aschalew Seyoum to beat Zimbabwe 1-0.

The Ethiopians, who lost their opening group stage game against Ghana, are third in the group with three points, on level with Ghana and one behind leaders South Africa.  

Tanzania claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Madagascar to go top of Group J following an away draw against DR Congo in their opening qualifier.

Erasto Nyoni, 2, Novatus Disma, 26, and Feisal Salum, 53, scored for the hosts while Njiva Rakotoharimalala, 36, and Thomas Fontaine, 45, scored the Malagasies’ goals.

Tanzania are joint leaders of the group with four points, on level with Benin. DR Congo are third with two points while Madagascar lie at the bottom with no points.

The winners of the 10 groups will contest a final two-legged playoff in March next year to determine Africa's five representatives at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
