Mostafa Fathi scored the winner for Zamalek with five minutes left to go in the first half, giving the Whites the victory in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Both teams came close to scoring from the beginning of the game, with the first real danger coming from Cleopatra when Sherif Dabo’s shot hit the crossbar from a free-kick from outside the box.

Full-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi came very close to scoring for the Whites, but Cleopatra’s goalie Amer Amer succeeded in blocking the ball.

After good playing on both sides, the 27-year-old Mostafa Fathi managed to break the ice at the 40th minute after scoring a wonderful first-time shot into the far bottom left side of the net.

Ceramica kept trying to equalise through the second half, but all their efforts were useless.

Meanwhile, the Whites didn’t make many more dangerous plays despite calling offensive key players from the bench such as Youssef ‘Obama’ Ibrahim, Mohamed Ounajem, and Seifeddine Jaziri.

After their victory, Zamalek now has 13 points, putting them in third place on the Egyptian Premier League table, while Ceramica Cleopatra stayed at sixth place on the table with eight points.
