The Pharaohs secured their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mauritania in the fourth round of Group C.

"I thank the Mauritanian fans for their presence and all my players players for their efforts despite challenging weather and playing on artificial turf. It was not easy for us as some players never played on such turf but we will improve in terms of performance and results in the futre," Hassan told the post-match press conference.

He also expressed hope for Mauritania’s qualification for the tournament, acknowledging the team's growth.

"We faced the strongest team in the group, as shown in Cairo and today. Mauritania has a talented coach and is becoming a strong contender. The determination of our players and Allah's grace, combined with the coaching staff's efforts, secured our victory," he added.

Mo Salah’s absence

Addressing Mohamed Salah’s absence, Hassan explained that Liverpool’s medical staff expressed concerns about the artificial turf worsening his back and knee injuries. "I prioritized Salah’s health and didn’t want to risk him, especially in these key qualifiers," he added.

Hassan highlighted the importance of player readiness, explaining his cautious approach with Salah and Mostafa Mohamed. "I must support players and collaborate with their clubs to ensure their long-term fitness," he said.

The Liverpool forward and Nantes striker have been rested from this game as well as Nabil Emad who has been dropped with a hamstring injury.

Hassan noted the Egyptian media’s tendency to focus on victories while also being critical. "Whether we win or lose, criticism comes. However, I respect constructive feedback from the media," he said.
