Tunisia coach Sabri Lamouchi is facing sacking by the country’s football federation after Monday’s heavy loss to Sweden in the World Cup.
The Tunisians lost 5-1 to Sweden in the Group F opening game.
The Eagles of Carthage delivered a humbling performance to suffer their worst-ever defeat at the prestigious continental tournament.
Directly after the game, reports in Tunisian media said the country’s football governing body is set to meet urgently to announce the departure of the 54-year-old French tactician Lamouchi.
Lamouchi acknowledged the errors made by his team in the game, describing the loss as a painful one.
“It’s a difficult loss. It’s painful. Starting the competition with this bad of a loss is indeed difficult,” he said in the press conference after the game.
Tunisian radio channel Jawhara FM said the Tunisian Football Federation is currently choosing between former Tunisia player and coach Mondher Kebaier and former CS Sfaxien coach Anis Boujelbene to become Lamouchi’s successor.
The federation has not announced any official decision yet.
The former Ivory Coast coach Lamouchi took charge of the Tunisian team in January, guiding the team in five matches (one win, one draw, and three losses).
Tunisia’s next game at the World Cup will be against Japan.
