Dallas police bid farewell to Egypt squad after altercation with Ibrahim Hassan

Police officers in the American city of Dallas bid a warm farewell to the Egyptian national team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, late on Saturday, before the squad departed the city to prepare for their upcoming World Cup Round of 16 clash against Argentina.

The farewell came a day after an altercation between Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan and a Dallas police officer, hours before Egypt's victory over Australia in the Round of 32.

Following the incident, Ibrahim Hassan said the police officer had treated members of the Egyptian national team harshly while preventing an Egyptian child from taking a photograph with Egypt star Mahmoud Trezeguet Hassan outside the team's residence.

A video of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed Hassan in a severe altercation with the officer before other police officers intervened and defused the situation.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, the Dallas Police Department extended a special greeting to Egypt's coaching staff, team captain Mohamed Salah, and Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abo Rida.

“The Dallas Police Department values its relationships with members of our community and international visitors. We understand one conversation can make a difference, and respect is demonstrated through actions,” the statement declared.

“Today, members of Team Egypt met with Dallas Police officers, exchanged gifts, and shared conversations centred on partnership and mutual respect,” it added.

After defeating Australia, the seven-time African champions advanced to the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in their history. The Dallas Police Department also congratulated the team on the historical achievement.

“Congratulations to Egypt on their win over Australia yesterday. We look forward to maintaining our relationship throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup and beyond,” the statement concluded.

The EFA also noted in a statement that, in a gesture of deep appreciation for the Egyptian delegation and their technical staff, Dallas police presented the legendary twins, Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, with the official commemorative police badges designated for World Cup security.

The Egypt squad departed Dallas for Atlanta, where they will face World Cup holders Argentina on Tuesday in the anticipated Round of 16 game.
