The Egyptian men's handball team have booked a place in the quarterfinals of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after beating Sweden 27/22 in the 4th matchday of Group B matches.

The Pharaohs dominated their foes in the first half, going to the locker room with a comfortable 13/9 lead thanks to the great saves of goalie Karim Hendawy and superb attacks of the frontline players.

In the second half, the Egyptian players continued their show, finishing the game with a 27/22 victory over World Championship runners-up Sweden.

Veteran keeper Hendawy was Egypt's best performer with 17 saves.

"All the players performed well against Sweden and I hope to continue in this superb performance to achieve our target," Hendawy was quoted as saying on a television programme after the game.

Egypt are now second in Group B with six points, two behind World Champions Denmark who will face Portugal later on Friday.

The top four from Group B, Denmark, Egypt, Sweden and Portugal, advanced to the quarterfinals.

Egypt, who are eyeing their first ever Olympic medal, next face Bahrain on Sunday in the final matchday of the group stage games.

The men's handball team kicked off their campaign in Tokyo with an impressive 37-31 win over Portugal before slumping to a 32-27 loss to reigning world champions Denmark and 33-29 victory over Olympic Games hosts Japan.

France, Spain, Norway and Germany made it to quarters from Group A to complete the last eight teams.
