The Turkish giants said in a statement that the player had received an invitation to play for Egypt's U23 football team at the upcoming Olympics, adding that they refused because of the club’s commitments. The club's rejection came despite the approval of the Pharaohs player.

“Our player informed our club that he wanted to take part in this tournament, but since FIFA's international match calendar does not include the Olympic U23 games and our team will play important qualifying matches in UEFA club competitions during the invitation period, our athlete was not allowed to participate in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics,” the club explained via their official website.

Under the guidance of a Brazilian coach, Egypt’s Olympic team is targeting the country’s first-ever Olympic medal. The Young Pharaohs are set to compete from 24 July to 11 August in the prestigious event.

The 29-year-old Trezeguet has delivered strong performances for his Turkish club and the Egyptian national team, establishing himself as an instrumental player on both sides.

Trezeguet, who made his international debut in 2014, recently delivered a superb performance with the senior national team; netting twice to help Egypt claim a narrow 2-1 win over Burkina Faso at Cairo stadium on 6 June in the World Cup qualifiers.

Trezeguet took his tally to 18 goals in 74 appearances with the Pharaohs.

The former Ahly player scored 11 goals in 28 games in different competitions with Trabzonspor last season. Trabzonspor ended the domestic league in third place with 67 points, 35 points behind champions Galatasaray.
